Rolling hills carpeted with spring flowers, white slopes dotted with charming villages, the majestic snow-capped peaks of the Alps, and lively cities steeped in history – Switzerland is an exhilarating destination whatever time of year you visit.
From a scenic point of view, Switzerland is remarkable. Ride a funicular to the top of the Klein-Matterhorn and appreciate the sheer beauty of its towering neighbour. Or take a trip to Schaffhausen to see the spectacular Rhine Falls, the largest waterfall in Europe. The countryside is full of picturesque chalets and historic castles waiting to be explored.
With such an epic landscape, outdoor enthusiasts are spoilt for choice in Switzerland. Skiing and snowboarding is king in winter, but over the glorious summer months the country is renowned for cycling, both on and off road, and its countless kilometres of spectacular hiking trails.
All of this activity makes a little culinary indulgence guilt free, with cuisine plucking dishes from neighbouring French, German and Italian, and hearty national specialities such as fondue, raclette and rösti. And of course, there’s the chocolate.
Picturesque cities such as Zurich, Bern, Lucerne, Basel and Lugano are well worth your time too, each have their own distinct regional characters and histories, hosting modern art galleries and fabulous shopping, particularly for those after Swiss-made watches.
