Lose yourself in the beauty and history of this memorable country

Emerald green mountain peaks peppered with picturesque villages, jagged crags reflecting off tranquil lakes, meadows bright with spring blooms and rolling vineyards blanketing an ancient wine region – Georgia is truly a beautiful country that’s sure to capture your heart.

The capital Tbilisi straddles the Kura River. Go exploring and you’ll discover a mix of Art Nouveau buildings as well as Georgian, Byzantine and Neoclassical architecture. Not many buildings survived the 1795 destruction of the city during the Battle of Krtsanisi, so most of its historical structures date back to the Russian Imperial period. Take time to wander along cobbled streets, popping into Eastern Orthodox churches, pretty parks and gardens and restaurants offering traditional Georgian dishes.

For adventurous hiking trails and the freshest mountain air, head to Kazbegi National Park where stunning waterfalls and lakes, and historical sites, beckon. Among the highlights here are Gergeti Trinity Church on the banks of the river Chkheri and Zakagori Fortress which can only be reached by hiking into the Truso Valley.

Georgia’s wine history is fascinating and the best place to dip into it on your private tour is in the Kakheti Wine Region. Sip on a glass of delectable amber wine as you drink in the breathtaking surroundings. Learn about the ancient winemaking techniques that have been kept alive for generations here. The Tsinandali Estate cellar still houses bottles dating back to the 19th century.

Slow the pace down even further and head to the Black Sea coast where luxury hotels and relaxing boat trips allow you to explore the coastline and the waters that lap the pebbled beaches.

    When to visit

The best time to visit Georgia is from April to October. Although temperatures vary greatly between the Caucasus Mountains, the balmy Black Sea and cities like Tbilisi, spring and autumn usually bring the most pleasant weather. July and August can get very hot, but are ideal for beach breaks or mountain adventures.
