Discover one of the New Seven Wonders of the World
There’s a reason that Peru’s Machu Picchu has captured the imagination of many a traveller. Visiting the Lost City is like stepping into another world. Rediscovered in 1911 by American explorer Hiram Bingham, the UNESCO World Heritage site is perched on a mountain ridge some 2,400 metres above sea level and commands jaw-dropping views of the vertiginous landscapes.
A luxury trip to Machu Picchu with Jacada helps you dive deeper, venturing beyond the surface and into the history behind this Incan citadel. It may have been built around 1450AD, but your knowledgeable guide will bring it to life, allowing you to picture the lives that were lived here, as well as appreciate the skill and ambition involved in building it.
Your personal travel designer will embellish your trip according to your preferences. Reach Machu Picchu by hiking the multi-day Inca Trail, which ends as you enter the mesmerising Sun Gate to see the citadel illuminated by the sunrise on your final day, as well as the Salkantay Trek or the lesser known Lares trail. For those who want to travel in style, the opulent Belmond Hiram Bingham train carves a scenic route through the mountainous countryside, accompanied by fine dining, while the Vistadome train’s oversized windows offer almost panoramic views of the journey.
As well as an in-depth private tour, we recommend that you take some time to explore the ruins by yourself – perhaps taking a break for afternoon tea at The Sanctuary, or climbing Huayna Picchu for an alternative view. With the Incan capital of Cusco as your base, you’ll be able to explore not only Machu Picchu but also the extensive network of Incan ruins around the Sacred Valley. Your expert private guide will open your eyes to the routines of daily life at the salt mines of Maras and the agricultural terraces of Moray, before delving into the spiritual with visits to temple ruins, including the Temple of the Moon on Huayna Picchu.

When to visit Machu Picchu
While it’s possible to visit Machu Picchu for much of the year, we recommend travelling between May and October, as these are the driest months, and the brighter weather has a high chance of clear skies. While day time temperatures can reach 26°C (79°F), you should still pack warm layers as early mornings are cold and misty.
You should also bear in mind that the Inca Trail closes every February, during the peak of the rainy season, however Machu Picchu itself remains open.
