    Tango

Buenos Aires is the birthplace of Tango

One of the world's great cities

Buenos Aires is undoubtedly one of the world’s greatest cities and an important destination on many of our Argentina tours. Centre of the world’s fifth largest economy at the turn of the 20th century, the city features an abundance of classical architecture and tree-lined boulevards reminiscent of its European counterparts.

There is also a resurgence of modern redevelopment and more cutting-edge culture, making Buenos Aires, like any great city, enjoyable on many different levels. There are a great variety of attractions, from tango saloons to stylish new bars, restaurants and night clubs, and from the bawdy colours of the unique Boca District to the stately elegance of Recoleta Cemetery.

There are a myriad of different hotels in Buenos Aires and our experts know the ones that best suit each of our bespoke Argentina tours. Generally speaking, those that we recommend are split between the high end luxury hotels close to the centre, and the stylish boutique hotels of the the hip Palermo district.

For those wanting an altogether more relaxing experience we also have a selection of estancias set in the Pampas outside of the city.

    Highlights

Enjoy the city’s many great restaurants, bars and cafes

Tour the elegant belle-epoque Mansions of Recoleta

Catch a tango show or improptu street performance

Explore the enticing boutiques of Palermo

From tango-filled milongas to the bustling art scene, immerse yourself in the culture of Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires is my favourite Latin America capital. It’s got style and charm – and it’s the birthplace of Tango! Explore on foot and you’ll feel like a Porteno as you uncover the real life of the city.

    When to visit

The seasons in Argentina are the reverse of those in the Northern Hemisphere. Spring and autumn are a good time to visit Buenos Aires, which can otherwise be quite sticky and humid. Summer is the only time you can climb the tallest Andean peaks and is the most reliable time of year to visit Tierra del Fuego. Autumn is a great time to visit the wine regions and Patagonia where the beech groves turn rusty red and orange.
