India is the quintessential country for a rejuvenating getaway. In addition to its multifaceted spiritual history and proliferation of sacred sites, it’s the birthplace of both yoga and Ayurvedic medicine. Fittingly, these two ancient traditions are an integral part of the experience at many of the best wellness retreats in India.

Each of these havens offers its own version of holistic healing, with yoga sessions and spa treatments complemented by nourishing cuisine and spectacular surroundings. Some promise total seclusion, encouraging you to disconnect from daily life and reconnect with yourself; others boast privileged locations that invite you to combine relaxation with exploration and adventure.

From the hills and holy waters of Rishikesh to the forts and oases of rural Rajasthan, here’s our selection of India’s best wellness retreats to visit in 2025

    Ananda in the Himalayas, Rishikesh

When it comes to wellness, there’s perhaps no place more legendary than Ananda in the Himalayas. Renowned as one of the world’s best luxury wellness retreats, this sprawling estate is perched in the hills above Rishikesh: the yoga capital of the world and one of India’s most spiritually significant cities.

Ananda’s various rooms, suites and villas offer stunning views plus private balconies, pools and gardens. Choose from a varied list of wellness programmes ranging from consultations with an Ayurvedic doctor to internationally inspired experiences like Reiki and aromatherapy. You can even enjoy emotional healing sessions or learn about the ancient philosophy of Vedanta.

Need to know: Although there’s plenty to keep you occupied on the property, Ananda is also a fantastic home base for outdoor adventures and wildlife experiences in the surrounding area.

    Six Senses Vana, Dehradun

Located just over an hour’s drive from Rishikesh in the city of Dehradun, Six Senses Vana is among our favourite destinations for a luxury Ayurvedic retreat in India. Here every aspect of your experience will be personalised according to your unique needs and goals, which will be determined upon arrival through a detailed consultation.

Six Senses Vana represents a seamless fusion of traditional wisdom and contemporary style. Ayurvedic traditions are supplemented by natural healing techniques from Tibet and China, as well as yoga sessions and physiotherapy. The resort itself is sleek and minimalist, imbuing every space with a sense of calm and clarity.

Need to know: Six Senses Vana is committed to preserving the natural world around it, and was the first retreat in India to be LEED Platinum certified for green building practices.

    Six Senses Fort Barwara, Rajasthan

If you’re looking to combine history and relaxation, Six Senses Fort Barwara is an ideal choice. Housed in a grand 14th-century fort in rural Rajasthan, it exudes a regal ambience everywhere from its sumptuous suites to its elegant restaurant. The enormous spa offers 2,800 square metres (30,000 square feet) of pools, saunas, treatment rooms, fitness areas and spaces dedicated to yoga and meditation.

The Alchemy Bar is especially alluring, giving you the chance to craft your own natural products with the help of an expert alchemist. You can also opt for the signature Tiger’s Eye treatment, named for the striated gemstone that’s utilised throughout the experience thanks to its healing properties.

Need to know: Six Senses Fort Barwara is about a three-hour drive from Jaipur and just an hour away from Ranthambore National Park, where you can see Bengal tigers in the wild.

    Amanbagh, Rajasthan

Certainly among the most beautiful wellness resorts in India, Amanbagh evokes the timeless elegance of a traditional Mughal palace. Featuring curving lines, light earth tones and luminous interiors, the retreat is a true haven of serenity amid the hills of rural Rajasthan. Some of its spacious suites and pavilions include private courtyards, pools and terraces.

As for wellness, you can pick and choose from a long list of Ayurvedic treatments, sunrise yoga, massages and more. For a truly comprehensive experience, immerse yourself in a personalised programme encompassing mindfulness, movement, nutrition and treatments designed according to your wellness objectives.

Need to know: We highly suggest exploring the area around Amanbagh, where you’ll find the abandoned village of Bhangarh and the Sariska Tiger Reserve. It’s also possible to add on a stay at the resort’s sister property, Aman-i-Khás, an opulent safari camp at the edge of Ranthambore National Park.

    RAAS Devigarh, Udaipur

Less than an hour north of Udaipur, an 18th-century palace has been transformed into the luxurious RAAS Devigarh. Its hill-top position once gave it a strategic advantage – and today affords the hotel phenomenal views. The impressive building itself is enhanced by manicured gardens where you can practise yoga or indulge in al fresco dining.

The spa at RAAS Devigarh places the concept of balance front and centre. Wellness here means bringing each aspect of your body, mind and spirit into harmony through Ayurvedic cuisine, healing therapies and contemplative time in nature. You can also choose a specialised retreat focused on relaxation, stress release, weight loss, detox or yoga.

Need to know: Our travel designer Rosanna recently visited RAAS Devigarh and fell in love with the resort’s effortless sophistication and rejuvenating wellness experiences.

    Neeleshwar Hermitage, Kerala

Kerala is the region on the west side of India’s southern tip. Amid its lush greenery and palm-lined beaches, the seaside retreat of Neeleshwar Hermitage awaits. Set right beside the pristine sands and warm waters of the Arabian Sea, this hotel’s name alludes to Shiva, the Hindu god associated with the concept of transformation – as well as yoga and meditation.

The retreat offers just 18 cottages, each built with locally sourced materials and named after a yogic virtue like shanti (peace) or sukha (happiness). Wellness spaces include a beachside yoga hall and the Ayurveda Spa. Here you can enjoy treatments recommended by the resident doctor, who can also create a custom nutritional plan for you.

Need to know: If you’re headed to Kerala, the best time to visit India is winter (September–March), when the weather is cooler and rain is less likely.
