You can also speak to your expert travel designer heritage railways such as the Bodmin railway in Cornwall’s countryside, or Scotland’s West Coast and Islands Jacobite steam train (better known as Harry Potter’s Hogwarts Express).
Our travel designers have real insight into this part of the world, and a tremendous amount of first-hand experience. They know which are the best luxury charters for cruising Ullswater in the Lake District and how to time your visit to the Royal Yacht Britannia in Edinburgh’s Leith to avoid the crowds.

When to visit the United Kingdom
The United Kingdom rewards visitors throughout the year, though spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) offer particularly appealing conditions. In spring and early summer gardens burst into bloom across England, and Scottish wildflowers reach their peak, then as summer fades, trees turn amber and Scotland’s highlands are carpeted in purple heather. These shoulder seasons conveniently avoid the domestic holiday crowds that arrive in high summer.
Rain features in every season – from brief showers to sometimes significant rainfall in the last few months of the year – but rarely derails well-planned itineraries. Winter brings cold temperatures but also Christmas markets, Christmas lights, and Hogmanay in Edinburgh. The key is matching your destination to the season: countryside and coast in warmer months, and urban culture year-round.
