A luxury Switzerland honeymoon with alpine views
A dream come true for honeymooners, with stunning Swiss Alps scenery, modern cities centres and beautiful old towns (many of them lakeside), Switzerland also has some of the most beautiful rail journeys in the world.
In the heart of Switzerland, Lucerne sits beside Lake Lucerne, where medieval bridges and mountain vistas create picture-perfect backdrops. Nearby, Interlaken is your gateway to the stunning Jungfraujoch – the ‘Top of Europe’ – where snow-capped peaks touch brilliant skies. Switzerland’s capital of Bern has a handsome old town with medieval arcades, while cosmopolitan Zurich has elegant waterfront promenades and striking church spires – and between Zurich and Bern is the bucolic Emmental Valley, in the foothills of the staggering Bernese Alps.
Romantic honeymoon destinations in Switzerland extend to the French-speaking west, which includes Geneva, Lausanne and Montreux, and to South Western Switzerland, where Zermatt is your base for the majestic Matterhorn. From here, experience luxury train travel in Switzerland aboard the legendary Glacier Express as it journeys through classic alpine scenery to St. Moritz, and continue aboard the Bernina Express – crossing 196 bridges and traversing 55 tunnels – from St. Moritz to Tirano, in Italy. From Tirano, cross back into Switzerland to explore the Italian-speaking region of Ticino: the only place in the country where Italian is the sole official language.

When to visit Switzerland
The best time of year for your luxury Switzerland honeymoon depends on what you’re looking for. Spring and summer offer perfect conditions for exploring the countryside and hiking mountain trails, while winter brings snowy landscapes to alpine villages, as well as (at higher altitudes) winter sports. Autumn (September to November), treats you to stunning foliage and picturesque vistas.
Keep in mind that Switzerland’s varying altitudes mean cooler temperatures during the summer at elevation, and snow isn’t guaranteed in lower areas during winter months. Some hotels in quieter mountain towns may close between the end of summer and the start of ski season.
