Exquisite cuisine and regional specialities on Greece food tours

On your Greece food tour you will taste your way through moussaka, layers of aubergine, meat and béchamel; spanakopita, spinach and feta in crispy filo pastry; and dolmades, a meze dish of stuffed vine leaves. Then there’s souvlaki, which represents street food at its finest – tender marinated meat grilled over charcoal and served with warm pita, tzatziki, tomatoes and onion.

Meze culture in Greece encourages sampling many small plates paired with ouzo, tsipouro or raki – or the Greek wines that have experienced a remarkable renaissance in recent years. Local grape varieties like Assyrtiko grown in the volcanic soil on Santorini produce whites that pair beautifully with seafood, while Agiorgitiko from the mountainous Peloponnese creates smooth roses and reds, perfect for roasted meats and tomato sauces.

During your stay in Nafplio in the Peloponnese you will venture into the countryside to walk through olive and orange groves, visit beehives and tour an historic ouzo distillery. In Athens and Crete’s Chania you will visit lively markets and discover sensational street food with a local expert. On a wine tour in Santorini you will explore the island and its lime washed villages, cruise the jewel-blue waters by private yacht and be introduced to the best of Santorini’s gastronomy and family-owned wineries.

Our expert travel designers take care of the details to ensure that your food and wine tour in Greece is seamless – and personalised to you.

A word from one of our experts

Greece has one of the oldest continuous culinary traditions in the world, and ingredients like olive oil, wine, honey, herbs and grains are still at the heart of Greek cuisine. On your journey you’ll explore the sun-drenched Greek mainland, Peloponnese and Greek islands where the finest Mediterranean ingredients have always been produced, and you’ll visit restaurants that have been run by the same family for generations.

    Luxury accommodation in Greece

There are many incredible places to stay in Greece. Here are some of our favourites, handpicked by our travel designers:

    Peloponnese

    Amanzoe
Sat atop a hill surrounded by undulating olive groves, Amanzoe is a 21st-century neoclassical temple with incredible panoramic views over Argolis and down to bustling Porto Heli below. There are 38 pavilions dotted along the hillside, each private and elegantly luxurious, opening onto terraces with private plunge pools and views of the surrounding land or sea. Each pavilion is accessed via a stone-walled courtyard, leading to a living area and king-size bed in a marble alcove. For friends and family groups, there are a collection of spacious four to nine-bedroom villas with their own chef and host. Colonnades lead to serene garden courtyards, a vast pool and an amphitheatre, as well as the restaurant where you’ll find simple, contemporary Greek and Mediterranean dishes that emphasise locally sourced fresh ingredients delivered daily. The Amanzoe’s expansive spa combines diet, gymnastics, exercise, massage and sea bathing with modern natural products and treatments. A gym is also available, and studios host yoga and Pilates sessions Just ten minutes away, and easily accessed by complimentary transfers, the Amanzoe’s private beach club is set beside the azure Agean, with four swimming pools, small spa, casual eatery and overnight cabanas providing all the comforts of the pavilions. Sunbathe on the terrace, swim in the sea or discover the bay by kayak, paddle-board or snorkel. You can also charter a boat from the Aman fleet to sail to nearby islands, such as Spetses aor Hydra, or venture to off-shore diving spots. Porto Heli’s tavernas and countless ancient ruins, from the Sanctuary of Asklepios at Epidaurus to Byzantine monasteries, are also all within easy reach.

    When to visit

The best time to visit Greece is typically from May to September, when the country is bathed in sunshine and summertime warmth. This is when the Greek Islands and beaches are at their best – though they can get busy during peak season in July and August. If you’re interested in exploring Athens or experiencing local holidays, spring (March to June) or autumn (September to November) might be better.
