Cruise through the Amazon, the Galápagos or the southern reaches of South America
As part of our wider collection of expedition cruises, a luxury South America expedition cruise is a brilliant invitation to experience the region’s wildest places. Aboard our favourite ships, you can explore some of the most remote parts of this continent, and beyond.
Cruising is one of the best ways to experience the Amazon whether you’re headed to Brazil, Peru or Colombia. Specially designed vessels navigate deep into these waterways, bringing you close to rainforest, wildlife and places that are otherwise difficult to reach.
The Galápagos Islands are perfectly suited to journeys on the water. You can board a luxury catamaran or yacht to hop between islands in search of the archipelago’s incredible wildlife: think sea lions, marine iguanas, blue-footed boobies, giant tortoises and reef sharks.
Head farther south to the glaciers and fjords of Patagonia. Here, cruises take you through dramatic waterways at the ‘end of the world.’ We often recommend combining this region with an expedition to Antarctica, which can be reached by way of the Drake Passage or on a fly-cruise from Chile aboard the Magellan Explorer.

Highlights
Stay in a spacious suite aboard the Delfin I as you cruise through the Northern Peruvian Amazon, with daily skiff excursions and excellent Peruvian cuisine
Hike through the forests and glaciers of Tierra del Fuego before embarking on a science-led voyage from Patagonia to Antarctica
Sail around Cape Horn and the southern reaches of South America aboard one of Australis’ purpose-built cruise ships
Step aboard Aqua Mare, the first superyacht in the Galápagos with personalised service and expert naturalist guides
Experience the thrill of an Antarctica fly-cruise on the Magellan Explorer, featuring a glass-walled lounge and forward-facing observation deck
Latin America lends itself beautifully to luxury cruising through remote archipelagos and wild southern waterways. I especially love exploring Patagonia by boat, then continuing even farther south on a voyage into the wilds of Antarctica.

When to go on a Latin America expedition cruise
The best time for luxury Latin America expedition cruises depends on your destination. Many of the best river cruises in South America can be enjoyed year-round, although the dry and rainy seasons bring different experiences in the Amazon.
We recommend taking a Chilean fjords cruise during the summer months of November to March, when conditions are at their best. This is also the best time to combine your Latin America itinerary with an expedition to Antarctica.
The Galápagos Islands are a year-round destination with certain activities and wildlife sightings best enjoyed during specific seasons. To see sea turtle hatchlings cross sandy beaches, time your Galápagos cruise between March and May.
