    Namibia's pleasant and tranquil capital

With its blend of European architecture and African vibrancy, Windhoek is a city where manicured gardens meet the vast, sun-drenched landscapes of the surrounding Khomas Highland plateau. Windhoek offers you a great base for your first night in Namibia after a long international flight.

The city’s architectural heritage, a legacy of German colonial influence, is evident in its stately buildings and meticulously restored landmarks. There are plenty of cultural experiences in Windhoek to enjoy if you find yourself with a little extra time here. The National Botanical Gardens are a highlight with the densest stand of mountain aloes in Namibia, flowering in April and May.

Beyond the city’s refined facade, Windhoek offers access to a wealth of cultural experiences. Explore the vibrant craft markets, where local artisans display their intricate works of art, or delve into the city’s rich history at the National Museum of Namibia. Or take a turn past the landmark Christuskirche historical site opposite the Tintenpalast parliamentary buildings. You may also be interested in visiting Katutura where you can see more artisans at work and learn about this important cultural part of Windhoek.

The culinary scene in Windhoek is a delightful fusion of international flavours and authentic Namibian cuisine. And many restaurants offer delicious game meat for those who fancy trying it.
