A true flamingo hotspot, this beautiful Soda Ash Lake is a marvellous sight to behold and the avid birdwatcher’s paradise. Located in the eastern limb of East Africa’s Great Rift Valley, around 140km northwest of Nairobi, this rather pretty lake is home to a huge number of birds that benefit from its rich minerals.

Roughly two-thirds of the lake are actually located within the Soysambu Conservancy, a 48,000 acre private ranch on the western side of the lake which is home to nesting Great White Pelicans and the beautifully coloured Night Herons. Around the sides of the lake you might see some zebra, eland and other small gazelle with a few families of warthogs in the background, tusking their way into the dirt hunting for grubs.
