A welcoming port city, historic villages and beautiful fjords

Entirely cut off from the rest of Oman by the surrounding United Arab Emirates, the Musandam Peninsula extends into the Strait of Hormuz. Known locally as Ruus Al Jibal, it is not as crowded as other parts of the country when it comes to visitors, but it is most certainly among the most beautiful places in Oman.

The main town of Khasab lies at the peninsula’s northern end. The welcoming port city is known for Khasab Fort with its crenellated turrets, a museum showcasing archeological items and local handicrafts as well as model wooden boats.

Rugged peaks push upwards out of azure waters creating steep-sided fjords, traditional dhows dotting the shallows around the coast, with abundant snorkelling opportunities. Cruising these stunning waters is one of the best ways to fully appreciate the beauty of this region. Keep an eye out for pods of frolicking dolphins along the way.

Head inland and discover small Omani villages, farms and heritage sites in the mountains of Dibba. Explore on foot and learn about important cultural relics and tombs, some of which date back to the seventh millennium BC.

Both the wilderness here and the pristine waters are largely untouched – offering you the opportunity to experience the natural beauty and wildlife as they have been for hundreds of years.

    Highlights

Make a truly unique entrance, arriving at your resort by paraglider.

Explore the rocky mountains and remote villages of Dibba, finding important cultural relics along the way.

Take a cruise through Musandam’s breathtaking fjords on a dhow.

Surrounded by the UAE on every side, the Musandam Peninsula is a remote Omani outpost. With just one hotel taking an exclusive spot in one of its bays, you can truly get back to nature and spend your time exploring the untouched corners of Northern Oman.

    When to Visit

The best time to visit the Musandam Peninsula is over the winter months between October and March when the weather is milder and more comfortable. April to September is when the temperatures are highest and this can make the water too warm for diving earlier in the season. Diving from June to August, however, means you don’t need a full wetsuit. If you’re looking for the coolest weather, then aim for January and February when there are short rain showers.
