Located in the western hills is Pokhara, a Nepalese tourist town at the base of the Himalayas built around the serene Phewa lake.

This was once a major trading route between India and Tibet but today its development is mainly due to tourism. Its scenic lakeside location makes it a lovely place to relax and enjoy the views of the towering peaks that ring the water.

There are a number of activities on offer in Pokhara, from paragliding and mountain biking to kayaking and white water rafting. This is also the gateway to the Annapurna region and its famous hikes and makes a great base for before and after.
