    Icelandic Highlands, Iceland

    Highland Base

A remote retreat in the Icelandic Highlands
An exterior wide view of Highland Base lit up at night, with a snowy landscape around it and the glow of the northern lights.

A sumptuous stay amid stark volcanic landscapes and geothermal springs

Located in the volcanic mountain range of Kerlingarfjöll, Highland Base is a luxurious retreat that invites you to explore the dramatic wilderness of the Icelandic Highlands. Featuring its own geothermal baths and expert guides, it’s the perfect home base for a rejuvenating adventure.

The Highland Base hotel offers cosy rooms and suites split between the new Hamar wing and the heritage Aldan wing, while the Highland Base lodges are private cabins for two to four guests. There’s also a campsite and camping huts available during summer (June–September).

In winter, the only way to reach this incredibly remote hotel in Iceland is in a 4×4 vehicle with an experienced driver. Activities include hiking in Kerlingarfjöll, guided snowmobiling excursions, buggy adventures, e-biking tours and stargazing beneath the northern lights.
