Kohima Camp

Every year, at the begining of December, the Hornbill Festival comes to Nagaland, to celebrate and strengthen the Naga culture. Over the course of ten days, the 16 tribes of Nagaland congregate at Naga Heritage Village at the foothills of the mighty Mount Japfü to show off their culture through vibrant music and dance performances, indigenous games, films and festivities.

The festival is a wonderful way to promote the ancient traditions of this little-known part of India and attendees can expect to be swept up in a whirlwind of colour and sound. Kohima Camp is a luxury mobile camp that co-incides with the Hornbill Festival and is located within six acres of peaceful forest a short drive from the festival site. At an altitude of 2,000m and surrounded by mystical mountains and babbling brooks, this is a chance to experience a truly unique side of the country.

The camp consists of luxury tents which sit on raised wooden decks and offer panoramic views of the beautiful surroundings. Fitted with large netted windows and triple layered to ensure natural insulation, these tents are wonderfully luxurious and comfortable. Wooden chandeliers, colonial-inspired furniture and crisp linen make the tents warm and inviting, and memory foam mattresses and an en-suite bathroom with ayurvedic amenities ensure you experience the upmost comfort.

The camp also features a reception tent where guests can meet and exchange stories. There is a small library and board games as well as iPod docks and complimentary Wi-Fi. The dining tent features indoor and outdoor seating and uses fresh, local and organic produce to create delicious regional and international cuisine. Keen cooks will want to take advantage of the cooking classes where you’ll learn all about local ingredients and traditional recipes.
