This twelve-day Indonesian trip begins with a stay at Java’s impressive Amanjiwo hotel. With views of the majestic Borobudur Temple, your time here can be filled with as much culture or relaxation as you like, before moving onto far-flung Sumba and Nihi Sumba Island, one of the finest resorts in the world. The second half of this trip then takes you sailing around the UNESCO-awarded Komodo Islands and its pristine beaches on a lavish, tailor-made five-night cruise.

Days 1–4

Three nights at luxury Amanjiwo

Spend your days relaxing at the ever peaceful Amanjiwo luxury hotel. Set within an authentic amphitheatre in rural Java, you can cycle around the surrounding villages or take a trip out to Borobudur where a ninth century Buddhist sanctuary is found. Your travel designer can arrange private tours and excursions for you according to your interests.

Private guided tour of Borobudur Temple at dawn

The largest Buddhist temple in the world, Borobudur Temple is intricately decorated with 504 life-sized Buddha statues. From the top gallery, you can enjoy beautiful views of the surrounding volcanoes and terraced fields of Central Java. A private guide will lead you through the temple’s intricate beauty and bring its history to life.

Village Cycling and Suroloyo Peak Hike

Cycle to Kali Tengah Village, stopping off at points of interest along the way, to begin your trek to Suroloyo, walking through farms and clove and coffee plantations. Here, you’ll climb the 280 steps to the peak of the Menoreh Hills for incredible views down the valley and the mountains beyond.

Days 4–7

Three nights of scenic seclusion at Nihi Sumba Island

Spend three nights on the Indonesian island paradise of Sumba, at one of the finest resorts in the world, NIHI Sumba Island. All your meals and non-alcoholic drinks are included, so relax, soak up the sun, and watch the sunset over an atmospheric dinner at one of the many romantic locations among the grounds. This heavenly slice of island life can be spent surfing and horse-riding at the picture-perfect beach, or swimming in crystal-clear waters or cool waterfall pools. Explore your surroundings by mountain biking and paddle boarding, visiting a traditional Sumbanese village, or unwind with a yoga or meditation session.

Open-water fishing trip

Seventeen miles off the coast of Sumba is NIHI Sumba Island’s FAD (fish aggregating device), a raft covered with algae which attracts little fish and, in turn, bigger fish. Here you can catch mahi-mahi and wahoo, which will later be served to you at dinner as sashimi.You can also jump in and snorkel with the fish, tiny sharks, and often dolphins, or try your hand at spear fishing too.

Massage, manicure and yoga

The ultimate day of relaxation tailored to you. Start the day with an invigorating yoga practice guided by Nihi’s resident expert, then go on to relax with a massage and a manicure on the terrace of your villa.

Sumba is famous for its impressive surf spots, and waves here can often reach up to five metres in height – the perfect challenge for thrill-seekers. Who better to help you conquer these waves than pro surfer Mark Healey, who’ll help you master your technique during a private surfing lesson.

Sumbanese Village Visit

The customs and traditions of Sumba are unique to the island and make up a valuable aspect of Indonesia’s cultural heritage. This cultural immersion sees you visit a local Sumbanese village, where you’ll meet some of the locals and learn about the work of the Sumba Foundation, which is able to implement community enriching projects thanks in part to donations from NIHI Sumba Island.

Morning Hike to Nihi Oka

Starting early, hike to Nihi Oka, a beautiful cliff-top spot where you’ll be greeted by cold towels and a coconut freshly cut from the palm trees by your guide. A scenic breakfast spread is laid out for you under the shade of the trees. Enjoy Sumbanese coffee and a delicious meal while overlooking the surf below before being driven back in an open-top Jeep.

Get stuck into Sumba’s cerulean seas on a stand-up paddle boarding session. This easy to master skill is a great way to get active and enjoy the glorious island views from a different perspective.

Days 7–11

Five days aboard your luxury Komodo Island cruise

Spend five perfect days sailing around the marine-rich, azure waters of the Komodo Islands, enjoying complete rest and relaxation alongside visits to lush islands and pristine beaches. Set out on land on exciting wildlife adventures in search of the infamous Komodo Dragon and snorkel and dive some of the world’s most exciting reefs, or simply relax on your luxury cruiser. The exact itinerary will depend on which yacht you choose, our travel designer will help you choose which suits you best.

The water around Komodo island contains some of the richest marine biodiversity on the planet. Expect to witness a dazzling kaleidoscope of fish darting about the coral reefs, as well as manta rays and even sharks. Even seasoned divers will be captivated by the spectrum of marine life beneath these turquoise waves.

One of only a handful of pink beaches on the planet, the rosy-hued sands of Komodo Island’s Pink Beach make for a beach day unlike any other.
