Yamashiro and Yamanaka, Japan

Hanamurasaki

A traditional Japanese inn with a modern twist

Enjoy a stay by the Yamanaka onsen

Hanamurasaki originates from the Japanese characters for ‘scenic beauty’, and with a breathtaking view of the Kakusenkei Valley on the property’s doorstep, this ryokann is aptly named. Throughout the hotel you’ll find Japanese contemporary art and handcrafted items adorning the walls.

Hanamurasaki holds 26 rooms in total, with five of them being suites whilst the rest are standard rooms. The designer’s junior suite, designer’s comfort suite and the comfort suites all feature private open-air baths, with the latter two also including saunas. The spacious designer suites rooms were created by renowned designer Shinichiro Ogata, all of which weave together ancient elegance and modern comfort.

For dining you can indulge in authentic Japanese cuisine in either the public dining area, which emanates a chic vibe due to its delicate Echizen Washi partitions and washi paper or the private dining area. This is ideal for families and groups, as it will allow you to enjoy each other’s company. There is also a banquet room and private in-room dining available.

At Hanamurasaki there are a plethora of experiences for you to enjoy. Take part in a Japanese tea ceremony and try various teas, matcha and tea cocktails brewed by tea masters at the SABO, visit a local tea plantation and pick your own leaves or visit the property’s onsen. Located on the top floor, this open-air bath boasts a lush view of the surrounding greenery. Soak in its healing waters and admire the beauty of the valley.

Of course there is also Yamanaka Onsen, which throughout the last 1,300 years has been believed to boost immunity and general health. Step into its cooling waves and feel its rejuvenating effect take hold.
