Munduk Moding Plantation is nestled in a working coffee plantation and surrounded by jungle. It consists of just nine villas and three suites that blend features of traditional Balinese architecture with more modern design. The resort, which was built by locals, was carefully designed to maximise privacy and minimise the impact on the environment. Munduk Moding Plantation also has a strict sustainability plan in place, with a waste management programme and several projects to support and uplift the local community.
Enjoy a meal at MiMPi Restaurant (which takes its name from the Balinese word for ‘dream’), where the menu offers Balinese, Indonesian, Asian and fusion dishes, which use homegrown organic vegetables, fruits and spices from the garden. There’s also a spa where you can relax and unwind with a massage or beauty treatment.
For a swim with one of the world’s best views, take a dip in the 18m infinity pool that looks out over the rolling hills, Bali’s central mountains and the Java Sea.
Sustainable development plan
The wastewater at this resort is treated in two wastewater gardens where it’s gradually broken down and cleaned. All the organic waste is composted in a composting centre and used on the land while the rest is recycled. The Munduk Moding Plantation doesn’t use plastic water bottles and aims to reduce the use of plastic as much as possible. The resort’s Green Team also works with the local community to assist them in reducing environmental stresses, and the Munduk Moding Plantation has joined the Green Global Community – the world’s premier certification programme for sustainable tourism. The resort’s surrounding plantation is gradually being returned to its state of an original rainforest, and the organic coffee growing process requires shadow trees, which attract several bird species while stimulating the growth of indigenous plants and flowers.
The Munduk Foundation
The Munduk Moding Plantation set up a foundation to support the local community with fellowship programmes for talented, but poor students, supporting girls through to college education, providing English language classes to locals, offering local dancing courses and providing a right of way to locals on certain parts of the estate to access a water source.
