A honeymoon safari in Zimbabwe promises the perfect combination of adventure, relaxation and romance. This southern African country abounds with opportunities to make lifelong memories together – and to enjoy some well-deserved rest after a whirlwind of wedding planning.

Hwange National Park is the top destination for wildlife viewing, boasting significant populations of lions, elephants, rhinos, buffalo, cheetahs and hyenas. It’s also one of the best places in Africa to spot elusive wild dogs. Mana Pools, meanwhile, is home to semi-aquatic species like Nile crocodiles and hippos, as well as elephants, big cats and abundant birdlife.

We highly recommend complementing your safari with a trip to Victoria Falls, where you can marvel at one of the world’s largest waterfalls and set out on romantic sunset boat trips on the Zambezi River. Adventure-seeking couples can also go white water rafting, zip lining or even bungee jumping.

Several of our favourite safari lodges in Zimbabwe are ideal for couples, with luxurious suites and an unparalleled level of privacy. Reach out to our team for expert tips on where to stay and what to do; we can help you craft a honeymoon itinerary with just the right amount of excitement and tranquillity.

    Highlights

Explore the most remote reaches of Mana Pools on foot or paddle through its eponymous pools on a canoe safari

See black and white rhinos and leopards in the Matobo Hills, as well as ancient rock art that’s over 10,000 years old

Sit down for a private dinner in the bush illuminated by candlelight and a canopy of sparkling stars

Spend a night surrounded by the wilderness with a romantic ‘star bed’ sleep-out in Hwange National Park

When to visit Zimbabwe for honeymoon safaris

The best time of year for a safari in Zimbabwe is from May to October, when the skies are clear, vegetation is thin and water sources are scarce. These months are optimal for wildlife spotting in the country’s national parks and reserves.

If you’re headed to Victoria Falls for your honeymoon, February to July offer the most dramatic views, with peak water levels between March and May. However, some activities require the lower water levels that August through January bring. If you’re hoping to combine safaris with the falls, May and June are ideal.
