Luxury Rwanda Honeymoons made for you

    Start Planning
Gorilla trekking, Big Five safaris and nights beneath the stars

Track wildlife, stargaze and slow down in Rwanda’s luxury lodges

A Rwanda honeymoon places you among intimate luxury lodges, striking landscapes and some of Africa’s most extraordinary wildlife. On the lush slopes of Volcanoes National Park, trek through bamboo forests to see endangered mountain gorillas. Or head to Nyungwe National Park, where chimpanzees and other primates move through the rainforest canopy.

Akagera National Park is Rwanda’s Big Five safari destination with open savannahs, lakes and wetlands that create a rich wildlife setting. Stay at Magashi Peninsula in your own private villa and spend a night in a star bed gazing up at skies bright with stars. By day, head out on expertly led game drives and boat safaris across Lake Rwanyakazinga.

We especially recommend pairing gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park with a stay at Bisate Reserve. After the awe of seeing mountain gorillas in the wild, return to volcano views and unwind with a couples’ massage at The Sanctuary, the lodge’s spa. In Nyungwe National Park, head high above the trees on the forest canopy walkway. Time it right and you can watch the sunset as birdsong and the sounds of the rainforest rise from below.

Explore Kigali on a curated private tour of the city. Some tours include time with women’s cooperatives on a fashion-focused route; others take you into one of the capital’s milk bars, where residents socialise over fresh or fermented milk. The tradition is closely tied to Rwanda’s cattle heritage and rural culture.

Contact our Africa travel specialists to start planning your Rwanda honeymoon. We’ll help you explore the ideas and craft a journey around your interests, pace and preferences.

A word from one of our experts

I particularly love seeing a gorilla family in the wild. You walk slowly through the forest to reach them, and then suddenly they’re right there in front of you. It’s such an emotional moment.

    Luxury accommodation in Rwanda

There are many incredible places to stay while on honeymoon in Rwanda. Here are some of our favourites, handpicked by our travel designers:

    Akagera National Park

    Wilderness Magashi Peninsula
Wilderness Magashi Peninsula is a luxurious camp and exclusive retreat in the heart of Akagera National Park in Rwanda. The camp is remote. The vistas are dominated by never-ending skies and uninterrupted views of sweeping plains and shimmery lakes. This intimate camp is designed for those seeking unparalleled privacy. There are two large private villas, each with their own deck and plunge pool. The camp’s main area consists of a spacious lounge and dining space, where Rwandan inspired interiors open out onto a large darkwood deck. The views stretch into the wilderness. Set apart from the camp’s main area is the Villa: an exclusive use property that accommodates six people with it’s own pool, social and dining areas. The Villa is ensures complete exclusivity. You’ll enjoy personalised  in-villa cuisine and a dedicated private safari guide and vehicle.  The wildlife and safari experiences are immersive. Situated within a private concession on the shores of Lake Rwanyakazinga, with the Mutumba Mountains rising in the distance you will feel completely connected to nature. These vast landscapes form the backdrop to extraordinary wildlife encounters. Akagera is a conservation success story, home to one of Africa’s most diverse ecosystems. Elephants wade in the lake and hippos bask along its banks. Embark on a morning game drive, glide silently through the waterways on a boating safari, or set out on a guided nature walk. Conservation and community engagement are at the heart of Wilderness Magashi Peninsula. In partnership with the Akagera Management Company, Wilderness supports vital initiatives such as predator monitoring, invasive plant management and educational programs designed to inspire the next generation of conservationists. A key focus is ensuring that both wildlife and local communities thrive side by side.

When to go to Rwanda on honeymoon

The dry months from June to September and December to February are especially good for an active honeymoon. Forest trails are generally less muddy for gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park and chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe.

The same months also work well for safari in Akagera National Park; wildlife is often easier to spot as animals gather around water sources. The greener months, usually March to May and October to November, bring excellent birding and fuller landscapes. Expect some rain between activities.
