Nestled in the foothills of the Aravalli mountain range and surrounded by protected forest, Dera Amer is a quiet and secluded haven just 45 minutes from Jaipur.
A love for nature and wildlife inspired a local Rajput family to turn their 160-acre estate into a wilderness camp. Elephants, camels and cows all call this place home and interaction with these majestic animals is part of what makes a stay here so special. The surrounding area is rich in flora and fauna and interspersed with villages and ancient monuments.
Four spacious tents with en suite bathrooms, carpets and wooden tables and chairs, offer modern-day comfort while allowing guests to get back to nature. After being greeted by the camp’s elephants, you can get close to these amazing creatures feeding them bananas and helping bathe them while chatting to the mahouts who will give an insight into their unique characters.
Some of Rajasthan’s most incredible scenery is on your doorstep and one of the best ways to explore is on a jeep safari. Walks to local villages to get an insight into their culture and day-to-day lives can also be arranged. After a day exploring, make your way back to the camp, glowing from the flicker of hurricane lamps, and enjoy dinner under the night sky.
