    From our Europe specialists

One of my favourite things about travelling through Spain is the food. Tapas naturally suit different ages and appetites, and their shared style gives you the chance to try lots of different dishes at once.

The best areas in Spain for a family holiday

While families will find plenty to do pretty much anywhere in Spain, there are a few places we prefer. The Costa del Sol, Costa Brava and Balearic Islands are ideal for beach holidays, while Seville and Barcelona are among the country’s most family-friendly cities.

When is the best time to visit Spain with kids?

Summer (June–August) is the most popular time for a family trip to Spain, though it can be crowded. We suggest heading to quieter coastal spots during these months rather than major destinations like Málaga or Barcelona.

You can also visit in the shoulder seasons (April–May and September–October) or combine popular places with lesser-known towns and countryside retreats.

With that in mind, we’re sharing our guide to the best Greek islands for families, along with one of our favourite example trips through Europe. This itinerary combines France, Italy and Greece, including an overnight train journey from Paris to Venice.
