Atacama Desert, Chile
Tierra Atacama

Escape to a luxurious oasis in the Atacama Desert
Set in Chile’s Atacama Desert, Tierra Atacama has been designed in an elegant, neo-minimal style. You’ll find touches of local culture throughout the hotel, including cowhide rugs and llama figures carved from volcanic rock sourced in Toconao.
Rooms look out over the Andes mountain range and nearby volcanoes. You can choose between Oriente rooms and the apartments, which are great for small groups or families, sleeping up to six people across two floors. One of our favourite moments is watching the desert change colour at dusk.
Dining is exquisite. Expect traditional specialities made with fresh seasonal ingredients, just right after an active day in the desert. You can also spend time at the bar, sipping Chilean wines as the evening settles over the landscape.
Wake early to see the Tatio Geysers, one of the world’s most impressive geothermal sites, or head out on walking and hiking trails across the desert. Visit Chaxa Lagoon in the Salar de Atacama, discover ancient petroglyphs and see the colours of Rainbow Valley.
When you’re not exploring, soak in the al fresco hot tub, move between the indoor pool and steam room or cool off in the outdoor pool. The spa uses natural ingredients from the region, including sheep’s milk, honey and clay.

Places to combine Tierra Atacama with

Torres del Paine
It’s this hotel’s bizarrely beautiful shape, designed to imitate that of a sun-bleached fossil on the ruggedly wild shores of Lake Sarmiento, which makes Tierra Patagonia such a striking place to stay. In fact, this sustainable lodge is known worldwide for its innovative architecture, which blends naturally into the landscape. The revitalised pampa, where the complex is based, has benefited from great conservation efforts, as well as focus on minimising footprint in this beautiful area.
This impressive blonde-wooded, design-led ‘shell’ houses 40 simple yet sophisticated Scandinavian-style rooms. Their exposed timber interiors create a tangible Sauna-like warmth that contrasts well with the views of the desolate pampas outside. There are family apartments of two adjoining rooms available, as well as the extensive Uma Spa, which is particularly welcomed after a hard day hiking the Torres del Paine National Park, which is simple given the hotel’s superb team of guides and the varied activities on offer here. From horse riding to climbing, this great range of opportunities means you really can take full advantage of your truly magnificent surrounds.
