Spend time exploring the gateway to Mongolia

You’ll find Mongolia’s busy capital, Ulaanbaatar, nestled on the banks of the Tuul River in a valley surrounded by four mountains. The skyline here is a mix of Soviet-era architecture, Buddhist monasteries and modern buildings with traditional gers dotting the city limits and retaining the country’s nomadic heritage. The political, cultural and economic hub of Mongolia, all visits to the country invariably include a stop in Ulaanbaatar. While you may just be passing through, there are a collection of sights and activities to take in while you’re here.

At the city’s centre you’ll find Sukhbaatar Square, surrounded by iconic landmarks like the Government Palace and the statue of Chinggis Khan. Go exploring with your private guide and you’ll discover a variety of museums and galleries all celebrating traditional Mongolian history, art, music and dance. The well-curated Chinggis Khan Museum makes for an exciting visit, and the Institute of Palaeontology is a highlight for anyone interested in ancient history and some of the most important dinosaur finds that have been unearthed in Mongolia.

Ulaanbaatar is a gateway to some of Mongolia’s most beautiful and striking natural landscapes. Just a short drive away you’ll discover Gorkhi-Terelj National Park which is home to diverse wildlife and scenic rock formations.
