An art-filled city surrounded by stunning countryside

A city packed with impressive architecture, fascinating public artworks, rich culture and historical monuments, Armenia’s capital Yerevan is a wonderful place to spend a few days when visiting the Caucasus. Stroll down wide, tree-lined boulevards and enjoy people watching at cafes and restaurants, or find a shady patch in one of the city’s pretty parks.

One of the most notable landmarks in the city is the Yerevan Cascade, a massive limestone staircase. Explore the gardens and fountains and you’ll spot a variety of contemporary sculptures. The sweeping views of the city and Mount Ararat from the top are excellent. From here, you can take a short walk to the Mother Armenia Monument. This large sculpture represents the Soviet victory in Word War II and commemorates the Armenian lives lost. Yerevan is also home to the ruins of Zvartnots Cathedral, a medieval Armenian cathedral that was built in the seventh century. Its circular exterior structure is unique in medieval Armenian architecture.

Armenia is a fairly small country and there is a lot to do outside of the capital. Head north and there are plenty of experiences out in the countryside that make for an exciting private tour. Learn about apiculture at a honey farm and meadery and get a glimpse into the fascinating world of beekeeping. And don’t miss the chance to tuck into delicious Armenian-style baklava while sipping on honey wine.

A thrilling off-road trip takes you deep into the thick forests of Dilijan National Park where you can enjoy a meal with stunning views of the Ijevan Mountains. The nearby Dilvados Tasting House is the perfect place to learn about fruit distilling and fruit spirits. You could also participate in a cooking class, working with some of the country’s finest fresh produce and flavours, letting the inspiration follow you home to your own kitchen where you can recreate some of your tastiest memories.
