    River Farmhouse

A Private Touch of Peace on the Zambezi

The River Farmhouse sits just 200m from Waterberry Lodge, in its own 3-acre plot. Built on the site of an original colonial farmhouse, this stunning sole use property has four ensuite bedrooms (two double, two twin), carefully positioned around a large, comfortable lounge and huge shady veranda, with the most beautiful grounds and a private infinity pool overlooking the wonderful Zambezi River. All four bedrooms are en suite, with fans and air conditioning, huge draped mosquito nets and electric blankets for cooler evenings.

The house is intended for families and groups holidaying and relaxing together. With a private chef and waiters, and a boat for exclusive use, River Farmhouse is a truly amazing escape to enjoy while on a trip to see the wonderful Victoria Falls.

The River Farmhouse is a perfect place to relax and recover from the rigors of safari or long flights. You are made to feel completely at home, whilst enjoying the private house staff, vehicle and boat. The décor echoes the colonial feel of the building – Afghan rugs on cool polished floors, Moroccan lighting adding splashes of colour in the evening, old paintings and exotic mirrors.

Outside is a seating area where you can lounge on comfortable eco friendly recycled furniture and sun loungers in sun or shade. At night, relax under the stars, with the croaking of frogs, the grunting of hippos, and the call of hyena and lion echo through the sky.

The Farmhouse is only 35 minutes from Victoria Falls. Explore this wonder via a helicopter ride over the falls or a swim in Devils Pool. Visit the museums or tour the Livingstone town and markets.
The River Farmhouse boat will take you on sunset, daytime or dawn cruises, fishing trips, island picnics. On land you’ll have the chance for guided birding trips and visits to the local village where the school is supported by guest donations.

Places to combine River Farmhouse with

    Encounter by Ongava

    Etosha National Park

    Encounter by Ongava

Encounter by Ongava is an intimate safari camp set within Ongava Game Reserve, on the southern edge of Etosha National Park. You’ll be surrounded by Mopane woodland and wildlife moving freely through the landscape.

There are eight spacious walk-in tents: seven standard tents and one paired tent that works well for families or small groups. Each tent has an en-suite bathroom with an outdoor shower and a private deck.

You can head out on game drives across the 30,000-hectare Ongava Game Reserve. The area is known for its rhino population, as well as lion, zebra and antelope, including the endemic black-faced impala. We especially recommend private guided nature walks, where you can slow down, appreciate the small details and explore with minimal impact. There may be the chance to approach white rhino on foot, as well as spend time bird watching.

For a wider safari experience, take a guided excursion into nearby Etosha National Park, Namibia’s prime savannah wilderness area. At the Ongava Visitor Centre, learn about the region’s geology, wildlife, plants and ecology.

Back at camp, slow down by the pool, settle into the library or gather at the bar as evening falls. The day softens into drinks, quiet conversation and the sounds of the reserve.
