Azura is the most stylish and contemporary of the lodges in this area. The entirely beach-front property consists of 14 villas, each with their own sizeable private plunge pools from which to enjoy the sunset with a cocktail.

Set on a private coral island in the Indian Ocean, it’s difficult to think of somewhere more romantic than Vamizi. A private island, accessible by only helicopter or flight aircraft, this beautiful location is utterly exclusive.

There are 13 large villas, each spaciously set apart with their own stretch of beach. Rooms are beautifully decorated with white billowing white muslin and stylish fixtures and fittings. It’s all about simplicity here so there’s no TV and no air-con (nor any need for it with the light sea breeze).

Apart from your villa and the beach, Vamizi has a main lounge area and another restaurant on the south side of the island. For the more energetic, there are many different activities, with world-class snorkelling and diving (where you share the sea with no-one but the marine life itself), fishing and kayaking.

The clean design of the luxurious Santorini Mozambique reflects the pale sands of Vilanculos Bay and the hue of the sea it overlooks. White washed walls, touches of blue and several airy levels evoke images of idyllic Greek islands.

Each of the five en-suite bedrooms feature private balconies with spectacular sea views. A staircase leads from the villa directly to the beach and the warm Indian Ocean, and located just a 20 minute drive from Vilanculos International Airport, the villa is well placed for exploration. The picturesque town of Vilanculos is a unique blend of African, Portuguese and Arab influences and just beyond the Bay of Vilanculos lie the chain of five islands comprising the Bazaruto Archipelago and a Marine National Park, hosting over 1200 species of fish.

The villa is ideal for families and friends and can be booked either in its entirety or on a per room basis.

A separate stand alone villa, ‘The Chapel’, is also found on the property. This one bedroom villa faces the ocean and is complete with its own lounge, kitchen, dining room, private pool and outdoor patio dining area. The Chapel is Ideal for honeymoon couples or romantic getaways.

On the western edge of the beautiful Bazaruto Island, looking across to Mozambique, the luxurious Anantara Bazaruto is an expansive but peaceful resort ideal for those after a blend of relaxation and adventure.

However, where this place really shines is with the range of activities on offer. Go in search of dugongs, turtles and whales on scuba dives and snorkelling excursions, try your hand at deep sea fishing, water skiing and wake boarding, or take sunset dhow cruises out to spot dolphins. There are also cooking classes, horse rides along the beach and cultural tours to discover the local culture.
