    Okavango Delta, Botswana

    Maxa Camp

Intimate camp at the confluence of the Okavango Delta and the Selinda Spillway
One of Maxa Camp's elegantly styled tented bedrooms, overlooking the lagoon.

    Between forest and lagoon

Where the Okavango Delta meets the Selinda Spillway in Botswana, Maxa Camp rests on the forested shores of Maxa Lagoon. Tucked deep within the Kaza Transfrontier Park, this area attracts throngs of remarkable wildlife with its labyrinth of clear channels and seasonal floodplains. Here, crocodiles emerge from reed-lined banks as hippos wallow in the sunshine and fish eagles skim the water.

Your adventures will propel you right into the excitement of this wilderness, whether that’s searching for lions and leopards on game drives or watching elephants and sable antelopes graze during walking safaris. You can also drift along meandering waterways on a mokoro (a dugout canoe) and discover the ancient customs and daily rituals of the region’s communities.

Maxa Camp’s elegantly styled tented rooms are peppered along the lagoon, cocooned in the emerald greenery of the surrounding forest. They each feature handcrafted furnishings by local artisans and roll-up canvas blinds that reveal an unobstructed sight of shimmering waters. Outside, an open-air bathroom invites you into the bush, where the rustle of mature trees mingles with the chorus of birdsong.

Sun-dappled pathways winding through the forest guide you to the lounge and dining areas framed by traditional clay walls and canvas roofs. At the heart, you’ll find a courtyard with picnic-style tables beneath the shade of giant jackalberry and marula trees. You can savour freshly prepared food here, baked or roasted in a termite mound that’s been cleverly transformed into an oven. There are also various waterside nooks, including a comfortably cushioned daybed and suspended hammock, from which you can drink in the lagoon’s serene beauty.
