Hugging the picturesque shoreline between the Hajar Mountains and the Arabian Gulf, Ras Al Khaimah is the northernmost emirate in the country and offers an enchanting mix of ancient and recent history, beautiful natural scenery and iconic landmarks.
The highest mountain peak in the region, Jebel Jais, is the perfect highlight if you’re looking for adventure. Think hiking trails, rope courses, sledding and a variety of other adrenaline-pumping activities. Take a step back in time at Al Jazeera Al Hamra, an old pearling village and the last of its kind in the region. Here there are watchtowers, a fort and mosque to discover, while learning about the role pearl farming played in the area.
For more historical insight, don’t miss Dhayah Fort, the only hill fort that still stands in the United Arab Emirates. It dates back to the late Bronze Age. Climbing the 239 steps rewards you with astounding views of the surrounding mountains and date palm gardens.
In the south, you can visit the hot springs and thermal pools of Khatt Village. During the Ubaid period, villages relied on the waters for their therapeutic benefits. The high temperatures and mineral content are believed to help with muscular concerns, skin conditions and more.
