Set beside the shimmering Arabian Gulf, Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, is a vibrant city that blends modern living, iconic architecture and rich tradition. A large part of the metropolis is spread across a series of islands connected by bridges. Abu Dhabi’s hub is situated on the main island where you’ll also find Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, the largest mosque in the country. With capacity for over 40,000 people, the main prayer hall alone can hold over 7,000 worshippers and the floral-designed courtyard is considered to be one of the world’s largest examples of marble mosaics. Another remarkable feature is the hand-woven Persian rug in the main hall, which has been named the largest of its kind in the world.

Take a leisurely stroll along the gently winding Corniche, a five-mile long walkway on the waterfront that takes you through gardens, past beaches and rewards you with stunning views out over the water at sunset.

Another important landmark is Qasr Al Hosn, an old stone building constructed at the end of the 18th century. Once a watchtower and the residence of ruling families, it is now a cultural centre which hosts various exhibitions.

To connect with nature, spend some time exploring Mangrove National Park, where there are over 60 species of birds to discover as well as opportunities to kayak along the beautiful waterways.
