Set overlooking the river, Le Château de la Treyne is a luxury hotel in the Dordogne, Bordeaux. The sixteenth-century château is surrounded by formal French gardens and private woodland. The château has an especially dramatic setting, with terraces, dining rooms and several bedrooms looking directly out over the river. The estate itself extends across gardens and private forest, with a Romanesque chapel and carefully maintained French formal landscaping adding to its status as a heritage site.

Each room has a view of the river or gardens and is uniquely laid out and individually styled with period details. Expect four-poster beds, carved wooden ceilings, Versailles parquet flooring, luxurious textiles and antique furniture. Several of the rooms occupy unusual architectural spaces, including suites set within the château’s tower and the former chapel, where stained glass and vaulted ceilings remain intact.

The château’s Michelin-starred restaurant, led by chef Stéphane Andrieux, serves seasonal menus rooted in regional produce from the Périgord. Meals take place in the Louis XIII dining room, a double-height dining room with a monumental carved fireplace, wood-panelled ceiling and candlelit tables, or on the terrace overlooking the Dordogne. The Green Lounge offers a more informal setting for breakfast by the fire with views of the gardens and an ancient cedar tree.

Beyond the château, you can explore the river directly, with canoes available to follow the Dordogne downstream, or play tennis, swim in the heated pool or stroll the many paths that wind through the surrounding forest. In the wider Bordeaux region, villages, caves and historic sites are easily reached, making this a fully immersive Dordogne castle hotel experience.

Château de Noizay
