Set around two lagoons and shaded by a canopy of ebony and mahogany trees is where you’ll find South Luangwa National Park‘s award-winning Mfuwe Lodge.The open plan reception, lounge, dining, and bar areas of the lodge overlook the two lagoons, with the wallowing hippo and thirsty wildlife sure to keep you entertained. There are 18 accommodations available, including two suites and three family rooms, styled as thatched air-conditioned chalets. Inside, each chalet has a comfortable sitting room, with the suites featuring an additional seating area upstairs, and the family rooms supplying ample space for two children. This region of the park is renowned for its prolific game, and giraffe, buffalo, antelope, and crocodile also being regular visitors to Mfuwe Lodge’s lagoon. Walking safaris can be arranged on request, but the majority of outings are game drives. Each year at Mfuwe Lodge, whole families of elephants visit between late October and mid-December to indulge on the fallen fruits from the large mango tree in the lodge grounds, a sight that is wonderful to behold. Activities also include spending some time with the local Mfuwe community and discovering the true meaning of relaxation at Mfuwe Lodge’s Bush Spa. As the sun sinks below the horizon, there is nothing better than finding a spectacular spot in the heart of the bush for a refreshing drink.

Lolebezi Lodge stands as a testament to wildlife diversity, celebrated for its thriving elephant herds, packs of wild dogs and plentiful leopards.

Nestled within a tree island in the game-rich and utterly beautiful Busanga Plains, Shumba Camp fuses its wild and remote location with stylish design for a superior safari experience. Soak up these fabulous sweeping views of a wide array of animals including wild dog, antelope and prides of lion, from your elegant tent or the camp’s wide deck. The spacious tents here are perched on raised wooden platforms and enjoy both indoor and outdoor showers. After a day of wildlife spotting, whether it’s been from a hot air balloon, 4×4 or boat, return to Shumba for some relaxing moments. Take a dip in the pool, dine on delicious food, indulge in a massage and spend a cultural evening around the boma.

In the eastern sector of the Mosi Oa Tunya National Park and about 12 kilometres from Victoria Falls, Wilderness Toka Leya gets immediate and fantastic views over the Zambezi River, and taking advantage of these are its twelve tented rooms. Each comes with a large decking area at the front leading out from large glass sliding doors, behind which is your large stylish open plan lounge area and bedroom. The camp’s main area is situated on a large decking area, and underneath a canopy of trees right beside the main channel of the Zambezi River. Perfect for atmospheric campfires on the bank and spotting the resident wildlife. Here there is also a very spacious open-plan lounge and dining room, set beneath an enormous canvas roof and with open sides to maximise the views. The wall at the back of the living area is a really great feature; it’s made of “log tiles”, which gives the room a very natural feel. Each tent has its very own solar panel, water geyser and batteries in keeping with the camp’s aim to lessen its environmental footprint.

As the first lodge to be built in the Zambezi National Park, this property has certainly nabbed one of the best positions, so close to the Falls that you can even see the spray billowing into the sky in the near distance. With thirteen vast tented chalets with contemporary style twists and modern amenities, you awake with folding back your canvas door, strolling onto your private wooden terrace, to be greeted by wild nature and sublime river views. Five of these feature a children’s room and all are to feature their own plunge pools out on private decks overlooking the Zambezi. Activities from the lodge include game drives and walking safaris into the national park, river cruises, canoeing, fishing and birding. On request, the more adventurous can try activities that Victoria Falls is renowned for – white water rafting, bungee jumping and flights over the falls.
