Sweeping across 13 000 hectares of savannah and riverine forest, Kapama Private Game Reserve represents a piece of Africa as it used to be, with the mighty Drakensberg mountains in the distance and iconic Kruger National Park to the east. Vast herds of buffalo, elephant and antelope are resident on Kapama, along with plentiful predators, completing the Big Five, as well as some 40 other mammal species and 350 different types of birds.

Game drives and bush walks offer fascinating encounters with wildlife, but Kapama also offers guests unique African wildlife experiences; elephant-back safaris through the untamed bush enable you to view game from atop a habituated African elephant. There are also guided personal elephant interactions, where the elephants are so close you can touch them.

Set on the banks of the perennial Klaserie River, Kapama Karula is the reserve’s most secluded and prestigious lodge. Ten spacious suites offer indoor and outdoor showers, air conditioners and gas-heated fireplaces, WiFi and huge glass sliding doors open out onto the Klaserie River and magnificent bushveld views beyond. The superior suites, two of which are ideal for families, have their own outside deck area with a full-size heated swimming pool.
