Situated in the only private concession in the Addo and surrounded by unending stretches of savannah is the 18th-century Gorah manor house that captures all the imperial style and turn-of-the-century finery of safari.
Its eleven tented suites have been dressed in the period grandeur of the pioneer age with four poster beds slung with soft awnings, collapsible table trays, oil lamps, crystal decanters and huge showers. Also the camp is an electrics-free zone, so no electrical appliances exist in the suites or main lodge.
The main house’s lovely open verandas invite you to relax whilst animals drink from the perfectly placed waterhole nearby meaning you need only look up from your book, teacup or plate to observe them. Owned by Hunter Hotels and a member of Relais and Chateaux, Gorah’s guides and service are as outstanding as expected.
