Located within 15 acres of preserved Atlantic Rainforest, Uxua Maré occupies 180 metres of pristine Itapororoca beachfront. This secluded spot is just a 20-minute drive from Trancoso‘s town square, or a 45-minute stroll along the sand from the UXUA Beach Bar.

This luxury resort in Brazil lies in its three antique farmhouses. Conceived by designer Wilbert Das, each house was carefully dismantled in the state of Minas Gerais, transported to the Bahian coast and artfully rebuilt. This process honoured their heritage, preserving original hardwood floors, sturdy beams and antique roof tiles. The hotel’s commitment to ecological regeneration is reflected in low-density construction and tangible initiatives, such as the fully solar-powered Casa Azul with its own well and garden of edible plants.

The estate itself is an invitation to explore nature. Follow trails through the rainforest to spot monkeys, sloths and colourful parrots, or discover the tranquil coral pools that appear on the beach at low tide. You can connect with Uxua’s progressive reforestation efforts, learning about rare plant species revived on the grounds. This deep connection to the land extends to the table at Mesa Maré, the on-site restaurant, where ingredients are sourced from the hotel’s own gardens. Beyond the retreat, Trancoso’s village offers plenty of artisan boutiques and authentic Bahian restaurants.
