Lençóis Maranhenses, Brazil
Anacardier

A boutique hideaway offering five distinctive suites designed for privacy, comfort and romance
Set on the edge of Lençóis Maranhenses National Park, Anacardier Privê Hotel is a small retreat designed for rest and reconnection. The surrounding landscape of shifting white dunes and turquoise lagoons provides a natural backdrop for exploring one of Brazil’s most unusual protected areas before returning to Anacardier’s calm and seclusion.
Each of the six suites expresses a slightly different mood. There are two Superior Suites that feature outdoor decks with soaking tubs, while the singular Delux Suite has an indoor tub in a romantic setting. The Luxo Suite stands out for its private aquarium-style pool framed by natural stone and wood, the Super Luxo has both indoor and outdoor bathing spaces, and the Premium Suite crowns the collection with a secluded rooftop deck and private soaking pool for two.
All of the rooms have an airy, light atmosphere thanks to skylights that let sunlight flood over whitewashed stone, blonde wood and linen fabrics. Natural materials are used throughout, with unique touches everywhere, such as bathroom sinks carved from granite and quartz stones, lamp shades made with dried local grasses, and ceramic and woven decorations. Service at Anacardier is discreet and personal, with an emphasis on attention, comfort and effortless style.

Places to combine Anacardier with

Trancoso
Run by Wilbur Das, creative director of the Diesel fashion label, Uxua exudes a great character and attention to detail, all with a rustic theme that merges effortlessly with the local setting. Accommodation is set in a number of private ‘Casas’ each with a unique style and character and ranging from one to three bedrooms; one is even a tree house. As a stunning centre-piece to the accommodation is the pool, lined with 40,000 turquoise aventurine quartz stones (native to Bahia) that are a testament to the careful and painstaking care taken to create a hotel that is at once unique but with roots in the location it is based.
The hotel is located on the ‘Quadrado’ or village square of Trancoso and has a spa with an extensive range of treatments. The restaurant serves delicious cuisine made with fruits and spices grown in the hotel’s own gardens. Many of the ‘Casas’ have their own full kitchen and local chefs can be brought in to give you a lesson in local cuisine. The Casas themselves are large and equipped with all the amenities one would expect in a luxury accommodation, some include jacuzzis and private plunge pools.
