Lençóis Maranhenses, Brazil
Oiá Casa Lençóis

A stylish guesthouse on the edge of Brazil’s Lençóis Maranhenses National Park
On the edge of Lençóis Maranhenses National Park along the northern coast of Brazil, Oiá Casa Lençóis is a contemporary guesthouse with direct access to the park’s white dunes and turquoise lagoons, where endangered species like the scarlet ibis and northern tiger cat still roam.
A serene refuge of cosy design, Oiá Casa Lençóis has a uniquely Brazilian aesthetic full of warm wood, stylish textiles and art thanks to Brazilian architect Marina Linhares. With just two suites in the main house and three bungalows hidden among the sand and native vegetation, you’ll often feel as though you have the dunes and lagoons to yourself. The interiors are light and understated, with local art and picture windows offering views across the lagoon waters. Dining is another highlight, centring seasonal ingredients and regional dishes interpreted through refined Brazilian cooking.
The ethos at Oiá Casa Lençóis is to connect you to the surrounding landscape and delicate nature here. You can take guided walks or a 4×4 tour in the park, go kayaking in the lagoons, ride a quad bike over the dunes or have a candlelit dinner in an extraordinary location. You can also set out on a special multi-day trekking experience that links Oiá’s sister property, Pop Up Atins, to Casa Lençóis across 27 kilometres on foot through the dunes.

Places to combine Oiá Casa Lençóis with

Trancoso
Run by Wilbur Das, creative director of the Diesel fashion label, Uxua exudes a great character and attention to detail, all with a rustic theme that merges effortlessly with the local setting. Accommodation is set in a number of private ‘Casas’ each with a unique style and character and ranging from one to three bedrooms; one is even a tree house. As a stunning centre-piece to the accommodation is the pool, lined with 40,000 turquoise aventurine quartz stones (native to Bahia) that are a testament to the careful and painstaking care taken to create a hotel that is at once unique but with roots in the location it is based.
The hotel is located on the ‘Quadrado’ or village square of Trancoso and has a spa with an extensive range of treatments. The restaurant serves delicious cuisine made with fruits and spices grown in the hotel’s own gardens. Many of the ‘Casas’ have their own full kitchen and local chefs can be brought in to give you a lesson in local cuisine. The Casas themselves are large and equipped with all the amenities one would expect in a luxury accommodation, some include jacuzzis and private plunge pools.
