Maribela is the Amharic word for Lalibela and translates as honey eater – a reference to the bees that swarmed around King Lalibela when he was born. The hotel is simple but comfortable and rooms come with private balconies set up with day beds, from which you can gaze out across the Ethiopian Highlands.

The restaurant served both Ethiopian and international cuisine and each evening a small bonfire is lit and guests are invited to gather for a traditional coffee ceremony and to try the famous honey wine.
