Patrick & Joan Leigh Fermor House

Historic seaside residence of the well-known writer
corridors and surrounding at Patrick & Joan Leigh Fermor House

The beloved coastal home of British travel writer Patrick Leigh Fermor and his wife, Joan

Patrick & Joan Leigh Fermor House was the seaside home of British travel writer Sir Patrick Leigh Fermor and his wife Joan, now made available as a private villa. Patrick and Joan lived in the house starting in the 1960s, when Fermor was a member of the British Military Mission to Greece. Set just outside the fishing village of Kardamyli on the Mani Peninsula, the property encompasses a Mediterranean garden of cypress and olive trees dotted with oleander and wildflowers that slopes down toward the sea. Within this setting stand three stone buildings: the Main House with three suites, the Traditional House (formerly the writer’s studio) and the Guest House beside it.

Offered for exclusive use, the villa can accommodate up to 10 guests, and blends historic character with spaces for shared living and restful solitude. The Main House features living areas with garden views, fireplaces and terraces. There is also the Traditional House, which includes an open-plan study and veranda, and the Guest House with its own patio and sitting area. Meals are prepared on site by a private chef, with menus for lunch and dinner crafted according to locally available ingredients and seasonal produce reflecting the Peloponnese landscape.

Outside, a pool sits among the garden, shaded by olive trees, creating a place for quiet swimming or sunlit rest. Stone steps lead from there toward a pebble beach below the house, where the clear waters of the Messenian Gulf invite you to dip in. Throughout the property, rooms and terraces frame views of sea, hills and sky – a setting shaped by the Fermors’ long affinity for the Greek landscape.

    Amanzoe

Sat atop a hill surrounded by undulating olive groves, Amanzoe is a 21st-century neoclassical temple with incredible panoramic views over Argolis and down to bustling Porto Heli below.

There are 38 pavilions dotted along the hillside, each private and elegantly luxurious, opening onto terraces with private plunge pools and views of the surrounding land or sea. Each pavilion is accessed via a stone-walled courtyard, leading to a living area and king-size bed in a marble alcove. For friends and family groups, there are a collection of spacious four to nine-bedroom villas with their own chef and host.

Colonnades lead to serene garden courtyards, a vast pool and an amphitheatre, as well as the restaurant where you’ll find simple, contemporary Greek and Mediterranean dishes that emphasise locally sourced fresh ingredients delivered daily.

The Amanzoe’s expansive spa combines diet, gymnastics, exercise, massage and sea bathing with modern natural products and treatments. A gym is also available, and studios host yoga and Pilates sessions

Just ten minutes away, and easily accessed by complimentary transfers, the Amanzoe’s private beach club is set beside the azure Agean, with four swimming pools, small spa, casual eatery and overnight cabanas providing all the comforts of the pavilions. Sunbathe on the terrace, swim in the sea or discover the bay by kayak, paddle-board or snorkel. You can also charter a boat from the Aman fleet to sail to nearby islands, such as Spetses aor Hydra, or venture to off-shore diving spots. Porto Heli’s tavernas and countless ancient ruins, from the Sanctuary of Asklepios at Epidaurus to Byzantine monasteries, are also all within easy reach.
