Explore volcanoes, rainforest and secluded beaches on a luxury Indonesia tour

See, sail and explore this archipelago in style on a luxury Indonesia tour. With over 17,000 islands, there’s no shortage of active things to do in Indonesia. You can cruise around the islands with a stay aboard one of our favourite Indonesia yacht charters. You’ll get to see sublime scenery, explore hidden coves and dive off the deck for a swim whenever you fancy.

In Bali, explore the sacred Uluwatu Temple and marvel at its dramatic perch on a steep cliff above the Indian Ocean. Trek to the peak of Mount Batur as the sun sinks below the horizon, before heading down to the crater rim to soak up the breathtaking vistas as your seasoned chef crafts a three-course dinner.

Only a short distance from Bali, the island of Java is strewn with smouldering volcanoes and ancient temples, including the majestic Borobudur, best seen bathed in the glow of sunrise. Navigate Java’s volcanic landscapes on a luxury train journey, learning about its topography and culture from local experts. Or, set sail on a private traditional outrigger to explore the Gili Islands, with stops at some of the best coral reefs in the Lombok Strait.

Journey on to the wild wonders of Indonesia’s Komodo National Park, a protected UNESCO World Heritage Site and the exclusive home of the magnificent Komodo dragon. While many dream of encountering these formidable, prehistoric creatures, few get to explore the park’s three main islands – Komodo, Rinca, and Padar – with the level of detail and luxury offered by our team.

However, if you’re seeking a more relaxed luxury trip to Indonesia, its beaches are some of Asia’s most beautiful. The secluded Raja Ampat archipelago is nothing short of idyllic – both above and below the sea’s surface.

A word from one of our experts

It’s really tough to sum up this incredible island nation in just a few sentences. It’s unlike anywhere else I’ve ever been, with an energy all of its own. Where else can you go from towering Buddhist monuments to smoking active volcanoes, to some of the world’s best diving to spotting real-life dragons? Along with world-class hotels, Indonesia is the destination that just keeps on giving, and I fully intend to go back again and again.

Luxury accommodation in Indonesia

There are many incredible places to stay in Indonesia. Here are some of our favourites, handpicked by our travel designers:

Lombok

The Sira
Set on the northern shores of Lombok, The Sira is located along a stretch of pristine white-sand beach, with the distant silhouettes of Mount Agung in Bali and Mount Rinjani on Lombok framing its horizon. The resort takes its name from the area’s coastline, a place long known for its tranquillity and charm. Each suite opens onto partial or full ocean views, where morning light shimmers across the bay and sunsets drench the sky in molten gold. For extra indulgence, the Sira Penthouse offers a rooftop deck with 180-degree views of the bay, making it an unrivalled vantage point for sunrise meditations or evening gatherings beneath the stars. Swim the length of the 70 metre outdoor pool or retreat to the spa, where soothing therapies draw inspiration from local healing traditions. Treatments are offered in serene indoor suites or beneath the open sky in an outdoor treatment gazebo. There is also a well-equipped fitness centre. Culinary experiences here celebrate the flavours of Indonesia while incorporating global inspiration. Dishes can be enjoyed in elegant dining rooms, beneath the veranda or with your toes in the sand as the sun slips beyond the horizon. From this ideal setting, explore nearby wonders such as the Tiu Teja Waterfall, where crystal-clear cascades plunge into emerald pools, or the Sukarara Weaving Village, alive with the vibrant colours and intricate artistry of traditional Lombok textiles. The neighbouring Sire Beach Golf Club offers sweeping sea views as you play a round of golf.

When to visit Indonesia

Indonesia has a tropical climate and is warm all year round. The dry season runs from May to October and is the most pleasant time to visit. Sunny days and low humidity make for excellent conditions for island-hopping, diving and visiting cultural sites. The period from April to June offers the best surfing opportunities. The wet season between November and April brings with it lush green scenery, but some risk of flooding.
