Taste of Hong Kong – one of March’s biggest events.

Hong Kong

Arts Month

March is the annual Arts Month in Hong Kong, with Art Basel Hong Kong, Art Central, the Asia Contemporary Art Show and let’s not forget Hong Kong Arts Festival all taking place over the next few weeks, with various art walks and guided tours available. M+ from West Kowloon Cultural District also offers a series of events for art lovers.

The complete Beethoven symphony cycle

Hong Kong Arts Festival just announced Gustavo Dudamel and the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela are bringing the complete Beethoven symphony cycle to town this November. Buy your tickets now and experience the powerful energy of this legendary orchestra.

Taste of Hong Kong

Back by popular demand, Taste of Hong Kong kicks off on 16th March at Central Harbourfront and continues until 19th March. Expect four days of cooking masterclasses, live demos from the top chefs and introductions to new restaurants. Learn about the Japanese produce used in the dishes at Amber with a masterclass from Chef Richard Ekkebus, and Kei Kobayashi will also be visiting to cook his signature gnocchi dish. I recently spoke to Simon Wilson, head of IMG Culinary Asia and the man behind this foodie festival. Check out the interview here.

Egglette festival

For something fun and family-friendly this weekend, you might want to pop over to EGGssentially Art!, Hong Kong’s first egglette festival. Celebrating the classic Hong Kong street-food egg waffles, which you can sample in all kinds of different flavours, there is also an egglette art workshop, music performances and even fitness programmes. The festival is at Hysan Place from 4th to 5th March.

Spring escapism in Hong Kong

If you’re keen to stay in Hong Kong, but still seeking an escape from the skyscrapers, how about exploring some of our amazing hiking trails before the rainy summer season? My favourite is MacLehose Trail, section two from Long Ke to Pak Tam Chung in Sai Kung. It offers the most breathtaking scenic views along with clear water, white-sand beaches and old rural villages. Trust me: you won’t believe you’re actually still in Hong Kong. Check out this Hong Kong hiking site, where you can choose the difficulty, region and type of hike you wish to try.

‘Helicoptering Africa’ with Ben Simpson

Jacada Travel is proud to sponsor the Royal Geographical Society’s ‘Helicoptering Africa’ with Ben Simpson, our partner at Tropic Air, for an evening of adventure talk and a dinner reception on 16th March.

From a childhood in high-rise Hong Kong to the plains and mountains of Kenya, Ben Simpson is one of Africa’s most well-known helicopter pilots whose day job includes taking guests on customised helicopter safaris, flying cameras for many award-winning BBC nature documentaries and performing complex medical evacuations. Revisit our interview with Ben Simpson here.

A land of heritage, gourmet food and vibrant cities, Spain is a place to which you will always return. With the sweet scent of orange blossom in the air, spring is perfect for southern Spain. Check out the Sevilla Spring Fair, a joyful festival with parades where residents can be seen riding horses or carriages or wearing flamenco outfits.

South Africa

South Africa has fine wine, a vibrant restaurant scene, incredible safari, and a stunning coastline where warm and cold waters meet. And this month, The Silo, Cape Town’s newest hotel, finally opens its doors, offering amazing panoramic views across the city and modern South African art adorning the walls. Our Cape Town-based team went to visit – read the report here.
