My love affair with Africa began over 20 years ago and all started with a six month adventure travelling from Kenya’s Great Rift Valley to the heart of South Africa’s Drakensberg Mountains. Covering this vast continent by land in local buses, sharing seats with chickens, crying babies and even the town mayor along the way, I knew this was somewhere special.
The sounds, smells, landscapes and of course incredible wildlife encounters of this vast continent have captured my imagination taking me back time and time again. Over the years I have witnessed some of nature’s most incredible wildlife sightings from herds of 1000 strong wildebeest and zebra scattered over the open plains of the Masai Mara, watching rhino from horseback in Kenya’s Laikipia Plateau, coming face to face with Silverbacks while gorilla trekking in both Rwanda and Uganda, to seeing leopard and lion while on a walking safari in Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park. Floating above the plains of the Kafue in a hot air balloon, meandering through papyrus trees in a mokoro through the Okavango Delta, waking up in the middle of the Makgadikgadi salt Pans with the sun rising at the tip of my feet, flying low over Namibia’s skeleton Coast, absorbing the incredible views around Cape Town and sampling some of the best wine found in the southern hemisphere. For me these are just some of the incredible experiences which I believe makes Africa a true journey for the senses and a chance to escape the everyday.
