This cosy, family-owned guesthouse occupies an enviable location on the eastern shore of Lake Myvatn and offers guests a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in Northern Iceland’s natural environment – the guesthouse is also a working cow and sheep farm which has been run by the family for more than 120 years.
The guesthouse consists of two loghouses, each with ten en suite rooms which are classically decorated and comfortably furnished. The hotel’s restaurant features produce from the on site farm and serves top-notch traditional Icelandic fare such as smoked trout, homemade cheese, Geysir bread baked in geothermal heat, ice cream and cakes. There’s also a bar/lounge area in which to relax in and a small designer boutique focusing on Icelandic heritage, Icelandic art and unique handmade products.
Early risers will be able to watch the cows being milked while children will be delighted with the opportunity to pet the calves and see newborn lambs in May. The remote location of the guesthouse provides a good chance to catch Northern Lights if travelling in winter, and you can meet the Icelandic Yule lads in Dimmuborgir during Advent.
