Cultural tour of Buenos Aires Cultural tour of Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires today offers both visitors and locals a broad choice of opportunities to enjoy its artistic and cultural heritage. Its fifty seven museums house permanent and visiting collections of classical and contemporary art, not to mention its many cultural and educational institutions to see. With your private, expert guide you will begin your cultural tour with a visit to the Colon Theatre (Teatro Colon) before leading you through the historic Recoleta Cemetery, then the National Museum of Decorative Arts, followed by the Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires (MALBA). Your tour will then conclude at the Fernández Blanco Museum of Spanish American Art, afterwards your guide will deliver you back to your hotel.

Colon Theatre Colon Theatre

The Colon Theatre is itself a living museum, displaying the costumes and memorabilia of performances past. It also hosts some of the world’s top orchestras, ballets, and opera companies. Your guide will bring alive the architecture, cultural resonance and history of this opera house.

Recoleta Cemetery Recoleta Cemetery

It might seem strange to visit a cemetery, but Recoleta doesn't fail to impress. Many mausoleums and tombs are the work of famous artists, 70 graves have been declared national monuments, but perhaps the most famous of all is the tomb of Evita Perón.

National Museum of Decorative Arts National Museum of Decorative Arts

This museum houses a fantastic exhibit of over 4000 objects, from Roman sculptures, European miniatures and portraits to contemporary hand-crafted silverwork. What's more, the building's neoclassical architecture and landscape gardens are a delight too.

MALBA (Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires) MALBA (Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires)

The MALBA displays an exceptional permanent collection of the Argentine entrepreneur Eduardo Constantini. There are over 200 works by 20th-century modern and contemporary Latin American artists including Fernando Botero, Pedro Figari, Antonio Segui, Antonio Berni, Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo. The Constantini collection is considered to be one of the most important and paradigmatic assemblies of modern art in the region.

Fernández Blanco Museum of Spanish American Art Fernández Blanco Museum of Spanish American Art

A descendant of an aristocratic Spanish family, Isaac Fernández Blanco's fortune allowed him to acquire a superb collection of colonial art treasures, including silverwork, paintings, furniture, books and documentation of his era. He presented it at his house in the centre of town which he opened to the public in 1922. There is also an impressive collection of European art, tapestries and ceramics built up by the Noel family and a beautiful silver and art collection donated by Celina González Garaño. The Ibero-American collection is today considered to be one of the most representative and comprehensive in Latin America.

Private helicopter ride over Ushuaia and the Beagle Channel Private helicopter ride over Ushuaia and the Beagle Channel

A private helicopter will take you flying over the striking southern Patagonian coastline of Ushuaia and the Beagle Channel, taking in the beautiful, sweeping scenery of glaciers, mountains, inlets and forests.

Full day tour exploring Ushuaia Full day tour exploring Ushuaia

You have an action-packed day of exploring today. Your private local guide will pick you up in the morning to first of all take a boat trip across the famous Beagle Channel, following in the (watery) footsteps of Charles Darwin on his expedition. Next you’ll board the Austral Fuegino (also known as the train at the end of the world); a historic, narrow gauge steam train that will take you along a scenic route into the Lapataia National Park. Here you will explore further before heading back to your hotel in Ushuaia.

Beagle Channel cruise Beagle Channel cruise

Board the comfortable and speedy catamaran at the pier in the downtown area of Ushuaia which moves off along the Beagle Channel. The town is rapidly left behind and appears, map-like, spread out on the lower slopes of the mountain that rises behind it, topped by the Martial Glacier. The catamaran glides along the channel, out of the Bay of Ushuaia, past the estancias originally belonging to the first settlers, set like miniatures against the towering grey mountain ranges. Pass the historic lighthouse Les Eclaireurs, the inspiration for Jules Verne’s novel 'The Lighthouse' at the End of the World, lying on a rocky promontory which stretches into the choppy waves. On the way back to Ushuaia, the catamaran passes small islands of rock rising from the wind-tossed waters, home to noisy communities of seals, sea lions, cormorants, giant petrels and many other species of sea-birds.

Train to the End of the World Train to the End of the World

One of the two narrow-gauge tracks left in Argentina, the Ferrocarril Austral Fueguino used to ferry prisoners from the island’s prison stronghold into the National Park to fell and chop trees. The “Trencito de los Presos” (the Little train of the Prisoners) departs from the Fueguino railway station with the stationmaster’s shrill whistle and steams slowly along the Pipo river until it reaches the Macarena waterfalls. A native Indian camp can be viewed at this point, recreated on the basis of evidence provided by today’s descendants of the tribes as well as documentation left by the early settlers. The train continues into the Lapataia National Park with its stunning views of Monte Susana, the Martial Glacier and the large swamp where the relics of the prisoners’ logging tasks can still be seen.

You will be brought by private vehicle through the National Park, a beautiful drive of some 2.5 hours with stops to enjoy the view, including the Corner of Sighs, where you get your first full view of the glacier. During the drive, you might catch a glimpse of red and grey foxes fleeing across the heathery landscape, whilst in the distance cinnamon-coloured guanaco deer balance on rocky crags and below, large Patagonian hares leap from bushes across streams. Along the roadside crawl little armadillos and if you are very lucky you might just see the tawny back of a puma, a mountain lion. Rosy flamingos gather at the water’s edge while hawks and kites hover over the hillside, eyeing scurrying voles and other rodents. And, just possibly, way way up above, you might spy the magnificent silhouette of the condor, apparently motionless, floating on the thermal wind currents that curl between the mountain peaks.

Private tour to Iguassu Falls Argentinean Side including Boat trip Private tour to Iguassu Falls Argentinean Side including Boat trip

A stunning tour of Iguassu, where you get a chance to really get up close to the falls.

Your guide will pick you up from your hotel and bring you by private vehicle to the entrance of the park on the Argentinian side. You'll then be taking the rest of the tour mainly on foot. Exploring the various wooden walk ways that lead through the national park close up to the many chutes of the falls.

One of the most spectacular sites of the falls is the 'devil's throat' which sees the largest flow of water. In order to visit the Devil’s Throat, the visitor must board the train at the Main Station or at the Cataratas Station, close to the Upper Circuit. For those who love trekking there is the one-kilometre-long Sendero Verde (Green Trail) that connects the Visitors Centre to the Cataratas Station and to the Upper Circuit.

Once you are at the Devil’s Throat Station you will have to walk for 1.100 meters on a flat catwalk built over the Upper Iguassu River. This catwalk crosses several islands. Once you get to the end of the catwalks, you will be surprised by a strategic lookout point resting on the side of the gorgeous Devil’s Throat.

Gran Aventura by Boat Gran Aventura by Boat

Going up river in these boats specially prepared to get to the base of Iguassu Falls and to be able to admire and feel them from up close. Whirlpools, waves and currents provoked by the Falls make this an unmissable part of any visit to the park.

Your guide will bring you to the starting point where large trucks specially adapted to this tour will take you and the other visitors to explore six kilometres in the humid subtropical forest as far as the banks of the Iguazu River, downstream from the Falls. From here you will board special high powered Zodiac boats that will take you, at high speed, to enjoy one of the most unforgettable experiences in the region: the direct and wet contact with the mighty Iguassu Falls. After this incredible trip participants will get off the boat at the base of the Falls, on catwalk that connects to the lower visitation circuit of the Falls. This tour can be started in the reverse direction, from this catwalk downwards ending with the jungle truck ride.

The faded grandeur of this part of the city, often referred to as the Montmartre of Rio, set into the hills close to the centre of town, still retains a rich cultural atmosphere of art, music and history. Mansions line the narrow streets struggling with the encroaching vegetation and incline, and is still home to many painters cafes and artists studios. You can stop for a drink or lunch at one of the many charming restaurants, bistros and cafes that populate Santa Teresa’s lively streets. Your guide will also take you to the Ruins Park, a cultural centre in the remains of a 19th century house which has a Belvedere that commands some of the best views over Rio.
