Caballadas is a private estancia of some 20,000 hectares which has been owned by the same family since its establishment in 1908. In the north of Lanín National Park, a secluded and beautiful corner of the Argentine Lake District, it is a place to get a traditional taste of life in Patagonia with some of the finest horse riding and fly fishing in the country.
The main lodge, La Casa Grande, is at the heart of the ranch atop a hill with fabulous valley and mountain views. Made of native oak and stone in a style typical for the region, it can accommodate up to 12 people in eight bedrooms with five shared bathrooms and there’s also a large communal living room with a fireplace, dining room, and a large playroom for younger ones.
A family run service includes excellent food served by chef, a variety of traditional local dishes including the famous asados accompanied by the finest Argentine wines.
Caballadas is home to about 60 free roaming horses and you will be matched with your ideal mount for some incredible rides accompanied by gauchos. There are even chances for longer rides with nights spent camping in the forest. You can explore the valley on hikes and the estancia is also home to one of the most exclusive fly fishing rivers in Patagonia, the Quillen, famed for its brown and rainbow trout.
