A starkly modern contrast to the plethora of luxury options on the Amalfi Coast, the Casa Angelina is a design led boutique hotel, set clinging to the cliffs close to Praiano. But it doesn’t suffer from being too cool – playful rainbow-glass sculptures from Cuban surrealist Sosabravo are scattered amongst the property and service is on a first name basis.
43 rooms and suites are pure white, from the walls to the floor and all the fabrics, making the yacht-wake scored sea and rugged green cliffs through the windows almost incandescent. A selection enjoy a vast private terraces offering up views to Positano and Capri and, 200 steps down from the main hotel beside the private beach, Casa Angelina’s four former fishermen’s cottages are now self contained apartments incorporating the natural rock of the cliff face into their whitewashed walls.
Outside, parasols and sun loungers litter the deck around the pool and cocktails pour to ambient music around the sociable bar. Inside there is a hydrotherapy pool, wellness centre and gym, again all sea facing.
The top floor terrace, appropriately named Un Piano nel Cielo (‘a floor in the sky) offers up lavish breakfasts followed delicate and inventive Mediterranean dishes made with locally sourced ingredients to accompanied by a 3000 bottle wine cellar and an uninterrupted view.
To explore the coastline by boat, take a trip out on the hotel’s private Master Angelina, which can be hired for half-day or full-day tours with your own personal skipper. For those without a car, there’s also a free shuttle into chic Positano, host to an array of shops and restaurants, and the start point for spectacular hikes and ferries to Amalfi.
