Amongst the trees of the of the forested Fiesole hillside, Il Salviatino is a handsomely restored 15th century villa enveloped by sprawling grounds with wonderful views down into Florence.

Interiors make the most of original architectural features, from the vaulted brick ceiling of the entrance hall to the wood-panelled library, with a carefully chosen selection of antiques, artworks and 19th century frescoes throughout.

45 rooms, including 22 suites, are individually decorated. Think oak and black-and-white-checkered marble floors, silver candelabras and crisp Tuscan linen, made modern with a blend of local artisanship and the latest technologies. With restored fresco ceilings, vast fireplaces and vintage chesterfield sofas, the Melodia, Tegliacci and Affresco Suites are amongst the grandest, while the Ojetti Suite has a spectacular sun room, the floor of which is the glass ceiling of Il Salviatino’s staircase, and a bathroom leading to a roof terrace and panoramic views.

The restaurant, La Cucina del Salviatino, serves up an reinvented take on traditional Tuscan fare. In winter, a handful of candlelit tables are set in the hotel’s library, whilst during summer months, guests dine out on the terrace overlooking the lights of Florence.

Elsewhere in the extensive gardens is the spa and its dedicated team of therapists, specialising in aromatherapeutic relaxation and anti-ageing treatments, as well as a rather lovely swimming pool.
