Across the Baie du Prieuré from Saint-Malo, Castelbrac resides overlooking the water in the commune of Dinard. The building itself is a 19th century villa built during the height of Dinard’s popularity with British and American aristocrats in the French ‘Belle Époque’.
After a period as a marine research station and aquarium (the wonderful bar’s booths once housed glass tanks and has suitably aquatic portholes peeking out to yachts in the bay), it was restored into a 25 room hotel with many original Art Deco features kept in tact. The rooms are spread between three buildings, each having its own character, and are all oriented toward the sea. Some of the suites enjoy wrap around balconies for fabulous sunset views.
Castelbrac also features a scenic outdoor pool, sun terrace, small spa and the restaurant, Pourquoi Pas, under local chef Julien Hennote serves simple cuisine with marine spirit made with quality produce from the region.
