Nestled within four acres of beautiful gardens is the Bath Priory, a gorgeous boutique hotel in a honey-coloured Georgian building. The hotel is located close to the city centre, which is reached via a short walk through Royal Victoria Park.
The hotel was built in 1835 on land that was owned by the Priory of Bath Abbey. It remained a private home until the 1960s before becoming a dormitory wing for the Park School and then a hotel in 1969.
There are 33 rooms and suites, most of which come with views over the gardens. Rooms are named after flowers while the suites are named after architectural crescents found in the city. Some come with Juliette balconies, four poster beds or freestanding bath tubs, while rich fabrics and period furniture give them all plenty of English charm.
The restaurant at the Bath Priory has been awarded a Michelin star for its creative and exciting British cuisine. Dishes are impeccably presented and make use of seasonal, local produce from the West Country. For a more informal dining experience, try the Pantry and when the sun is shining enjoy a coffee, glass of wine or afternoon tea on the terrace.
Retreat to the library or drawing room, whose walls are adorned with a collection of 20th-century art, to enjoy the papers in front of the fire, or for the ultimate in relaxaion, unwind in the spa or take a dip in indoor or heated outdoor pool.
