Lodges and Camps in West Serengeti
Here are some of our travel designers' favourite options
Grumeti Serengeti River LodgeThis stylish and modern coloured camp is situated right on the banks of the Grumeti River in the Serengeti National Park, which is filled with pods of grunting hippos and huge crocodiles who wait eagerly for the migration of wildebeest and zebra to attempt to cross. Utilising the natural bow shape of the river, and paying homage to the circular forms of a traditional Maasai manyatta, Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge unfolds to reveal a sense of luxury like no other. Adorned with Kitenge fabrics and accentuated with stone walls, the lodge also features the vibrant colours of the fishing communities surrounding Lake Victoria. Aside from the lodge, there are also 10 very spacious guest suites which offer natural light, an indoor shower with a spectacular view, and a private plunge pool. A family suite, with the addition of a smaller children’s bedroom, offers adventurous families the opportunity to explore the African bush together. Celebrating the local culture and cuisine, the meals served at Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge are not to be missed. The interactive kitchen creates a space for guests to work alongside chefs and help plan the menus for the day, whilst the traditional boma serves a selection of artisanal pizzas and salt-crusted, whole baked fish along with many other delicious meals. Relax around the central circular bar in the afternoon and evening with your family, or get to know your fellow Grumeti guests. Animals do wander through into the camp on occasion so you don’t have to venture very far to see them, and bird-life in this area is excellent so so keep an eye out for the smaller creatures that frequent this lovely area of the park. This part of the Serengeti has a vast landscape of hills, floodplains, and rivers which sustain huge herds of plains game and keep the predators in the area.
